Hron River Descent – middle section<\/h1>\n

\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”35px”][vc_column_text]A calm surface of the Hron<\/strong> awaits you, occasionally sticking out its watery tongue. Adrenaline will rush through your veins and a satisfied smile will appear on your face.<\/p>\n

At the beginning, between Slovensk\u00e1 \u013dup\u010da<\/strong> and \u0160alkov\u00e1<\/strong>, expect two rapids that you will navigate without problems. You will pass by the \u0160alkov\u00e1 hydroelectric power plant. The weir is not navigated, so you do not have to worry about a difficult section ahead of you. “Crew disembark, carry the boats, and board again!<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

After boarding, you arrive in Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica<\/strong>. The second weir in order, Uhlisko<\/strong>, is passable for paddlers. Enjoy the calm current through the city in the regulated channel of the Hron<\/strong>, which in these urban areas is lined with high walls.<\/p>\n

WARNING \u2013 getting ashore is not possible.<\/strong> Beyond Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica, the most entertaining section through Vlkanov\u00e1<\/strong> with many river hazards will test your paddling skills. You will continue on through the town of Slia\u010d<\/strong> all the way to Zvolen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here, get your muscles ready. A 300-meter portage over the weir requires strong arms. Beyond Zvolen, the Hron continues in its relaxation mode. Enjoy the chirping of birds and beautiful views of the surrounding \u0160tiavnica<\/strong> and Kremnica Mountains<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][vc_single_image image=”10836″ img_size=”1200×675″ qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][vc_column_text]The middle section is usually paddled in 1<\/strong> to 2 days<\/strong>. A popular place to start is Lodenica na Mlyn\u010doku<\/strong>, and the trip can end in Ilia\u0161<\/strong> (19 river km) or in Vlkanov\u00e1<\/strong> (22 river km). In the case of a two-day trip, you can continue as far as Zvolen (32 river km) or even beneath Pust\u00fd hrad<\/strong> all the way to Bud\u010da<\/strong> (40 river km). There are many alternatives for the descent. For multi-day trips, we recommend starting higher up in Horehronie<\/strong> or continuing all the way to the Gron<\/strong> region.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][vc_single_image image=”3077″ img_size=”1200×675″ qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][vc_column_text]The middle section is interesting for people who like history. During the trip, a little glimpse into history also awaits you. You will paddle through three former royal towns \u2013 Slovensk\u00e1 \u013dup\u010da<\/strong>, Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica<\/strong>, Zvolen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the route, you will also find \u013dup\u010da Castle<\/strong>, which eagerly awaits curious visitors during the summer. In Hronsek<\/strong>, you will paddle past the Wooden Articular Church<\/strong>, which is listed as a UNESCO<\/strong> site. If you are interested in a visit, dock immediately after passing under the railway bridge on the left bank.<\/p>\n

In Hronsek<\/strong>, a manor house and the Water Castle<\/strong> also await you. They are currently not open to the public, but they are still worth seeing. Farther along the way, the largest castle in Slovakia, Pust\u00fd hrad<\/strong>, peeks out at you. From the campsite at \u010cerven\u00fd medok\u00fd\u0161<\/strong>, where a refreshing mineral spring rises, you can reach the castle by taking the back way on the left. If you continue farther, you will get to Zvolen<\/strong>. Besides the magnificent historic center, Zvolen Castle<\/strong> also awaits you, which is currently home to the Slovak National Gallery.
