Muránka River Descent is an ideal start for paddlers. Inexperienced kayakers, families with children, and tourists who have minimal or no experience with river descents will surely appreciate the calm surface of the river.
The paddling experience is complemented by beautiful nature, full of untouched nooks. If you are among the lucky ones, definitely get ready for a unique experience. The inhabitants of the Muránka also include a family of beavers, which diligently works on gnawing the surrounding trees and building a dam. Such an experience will certainly not escape a keen eye.
The start of the descent is in the town of Jelšava. The employees of Municipal Services in Jelšava will arrange a date with you when you can come for the descent. You can rent canoes and kayaks at the meeting point, i.e. in front of the Municipal Services building, on the agreed date. Parking for visitors is available free of charge directly in front of the building.
Municipal Services staff will take you about 2 km from the town of Jelšava directly into the heart of nature, where your adventurous paddling journey begins. An expert briefing, boarding the boats, and a wave with the paddlers’ greeting “AHOY” await you. Ahead of you are almost 4 kilometers of beautiful nature and extraordinary experiences. After about an hour, you will reach the southern edge of Jelšava, where Municipal Services staff will already be waiting for you. They will take you back to the parking lot. If interested, a shower and changing room are available for participants, where you can change and wash after the descent.

During the descent, it is possible to rent a scooter that will take you around the region. This pleasant activity is included in the price of the descent, but it is not recommended for families with very small children. The downhill ride through mountain terrain takes about 30 minutes. A little adrenaline in your blood will surely pleasantly delight you.

Accommodation in the area is not a problem. Smaller guesthouses or Hotel Hrádok are available. Be sure to take a trip around Jelšava. The town offers plenty of historical attractions. The dominant landmark of the town center is the Coburg Manor House, which is open to the public.

Gemer is historically one of the most interesting parts of Slovakia. Swap your feet for bicycles and discover the Gemer connectors. These are remnants of the railway that connected Gemer with the rest of Slovakia. Did you know that Slovakia is home to the longest cycling tunnel in Europe, which is also the third longest tunnel in the world?

Slavošov Tunnel is 2.4 km long and is located on a somewhat more demanding route starting from the Mnišany Viaduct. From an adrenaline-filled experience, you can immediately move on to history. In Revúca, you can explore the first Slovak grammar school, which enjoyed its golden age in the 19th century. Gemer hides various cultural and historical monuments. Also interesting is the route following the footsteps of the iron heart of Hungary in Gemer (Sirk- Železník- Červeňany- Rákošská Baňa). You will learn about the history of metallurgy, see a blast furnace, and discover “the iron heart” of Hungary.
