An old fortified mansion once used to stand at my place. However, King Matthias Corvinus donated me to the Dóczy family for their services in the army. When the 15th century gave way to the 16th, my walls became stronger and firmer. Unfortunately, that was not enough. After the attack of the Turks, Žarnovica was plundered.
My lord of the castle, Sigismund Dóczy, was mercilessly executed and his noble wife was taken into Turkish captivity. My history is not a happy one.
During the Slovak National Uprising, on 29th August 1944, the Trnava garrison with 2000 soldiers arrived in Žarnovica and was temporarily based in the manor house. In honour of this event, a memorial plaque has been placed on the wall at the entrance of the building.
