The source of the Ipeľ River is located near Lom nad Rimavicou, and its journey ends in the mighty Danube. It stretches for as much as 140 km and forms a natural border between Slovakia and Hungary. Although the Ipeľ appears to be a calm river, it can surprise you with its temperament. Especially during rainy periods, it gains strength and its current speeds up.
Its course is winding and full of beautiful natural scenery. Paddlers can look forward to meanders, fairy-tale floodplain forests, and meadows where only dancing fairies are missing. The nature around the river is diverse and full of rare fauna and flora. From a canoe or kayak, you can observe water birds, various species of fish, and other local animals.
During the rafting trip, it is possible to step ashore and discover local customs as well. If you are a lover of indulgence, you will certainly appreciate the local wineries and restaurants. For history lovers, we offer monuments of cultural heritage.
Ipeľ River rafting begins in the village of Bušince. Are you interested in the history of aviation in Slovakia? Visit the local Museum of Aladár Koch Zsélyi, who is considered the Slovak Icarus. If you prefer long walks, be sure to plan a visit to the museum and manor house of the Madách family writers in Dolná Strehová. After a demanding day, you can quickly relax in the local thermal baths Aquatermal Strehová.
On the next day of the rafting trip, you will arrive in the village of Veľká Čalomija. The village is located in beautiful nature that hides a piece of history. We have several tourist tips for you: the Abandoned Church, hiding uncovered tombs and archaeological excavations. An interesting attraction is a Czechoslovak bunker with firing embrasures under reconstruction.
The last stop will be attractive for gourmets and winemakers. In Ipeľské Predmostie, a pleasant meeting with fruit and vegetable growers awaits you, along with lots of excellent restaurants and wine tasting from local grape varieties. Be sure to set aside time for gingerbread baking according to grandmothers’ recipes, and if you are lucky, you may manage to paddle into the village during the grape harvest festival.

The route starts in the settlement of Rároš near Madách Bridge – ends in the village of Čeláre, by the football field. The route takes 4 hours, and boat transport is required on the route.
4.Route
The route starts at Bušince harbor – village of Čeláre and back, with the possibility of paddling upstream – The route takes 2 hours. The route does not require transport.
